Ballasts & Drivers

Ballasts and drivers install into lighting fixtures to regulate current and voltage flowing to the fixtures' lamps or LED arrays. They protect lamps and LED arrays from damaging fluctuations in the power supply that can reduce the quality of the lamps' and arrays' light output. Fluorescent ballasts power on linear fluorescent and CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lamps) with an initial spike of high voltage, then regulate current to protect the lamps from power fluctuations. HID (high-intensity discharge) ballasts power on metal halide or high-pressure sodium HID lamps with an initial high voltage spike, then regulate current to protect the lamps from power fluctuations. LED drivers convert high-voltage alternating current (AC) into low-voltage direct current (DC) to power LED lamps and fixture arrays. Emergency lighting ballasts and drivers connect to existing fixtures. They keep them running during outages and aid in evacuation.
